Writing & Editing Services

"After several attempts to write the opening blurb for my book, Own Your Game, I realized I needed help. A friend suggested I contact Lois Gordon. She was easy to work with, really understood what I was trying to say, and got it done well before my deadline. Her revisions were right on. I highly recommend her!"

"Every author needs the help of a talented editor, and Lois Gordon is among the best. She’s astute and insightful. Lois has a rare gift for spotting discrepancies and correcting errant grammar, while remaining alert to tone and nuance. She has done a terrific job in helping to fine-tune my manuscripts, and I’m very lucky to have her on my team".

"Lois is my go-to editor of choice for both my business communications practice and my fiction writing. She has a keen eye for detail and a strong sense of the message I am trying to convey to my intended audience, whether that is a senior business executive or a women’s fiction fan. Most important to me, though, is that she respects my ‘voice’, so the resulting narrative reads like I wrote it myself."

My Specialty

After 25+ years in the field of interior design, and having written dozens of articles for newspapers and magazines on a variety of subjects, I have the experience to handle your specialized material with insight and knowledge. For interior designers, decorators, architects, builders and renovators, and suppliers of related products, you can trust that I know the difference between pink and puce, lintels and mantels, plumb lines and plumbing.

As an author myself, I particularly appreciate the tropes associated with mysteries, women’s fiction, thrillers, and romance. Although I welcome other genres, I do not work with children’s books, young adult fiction, erotica, science fiction, fantasy or horror. Manuscripts containing graphic violence will not be considered.

Fees for stylistic editing start at $30.00/hour but may vary, depending on the size of your manuscript and the input you require. I offer two levels of service:

• A read-through of the full or partial, considering plot, character development, pacing, dialogue, and clarity. I will provide a brief, written evaluation of the material, and up to a 1 hour discussion on the telephone to address any questions or concerns you may have.

• A comprehensive analysis and stylistic editing of the document, full or partial, with Track Changes and Comments. Via email, I will return the marked-up document along with a clean copy so you can easily read the revised manuscript. A brief written evaluation will follow, and we can discuss any concerns or questions you have on the telephone, for up to 1 hour.

Please contact me to discuss your needs in any of these areas so we can custom-tailor a process and fee structure for your particular project.
